Maybe an other sollution? In the blog settings for example? You could write a plugin to do that. Domain mapping is in process of being added to WP core. We are not adding an new features to the plugin.

Try adding a / onto the http://www.mydomain1.com/wp-admin URL and see if that works. If that does work then mod_rewrite is not enabled on you web account. Contact your hosting support to have it enabled.
