The first half is correct. When you edit the URL, the original username.foonetwork.com disappears so you can't use it for a CNAME pointer.

You cannot do 2 mappings by editing the site's URL. Change the URL to the primary domain & add a htaccess rewrite to redirect the second domain to the primary.
